Positive Grid® hidden gems

Ampl4 users, there are more amps than you thought hiding in your Bias folders!

Posted by Ampl4 on March 19, 2016

Three days ago I promised to tell you more about the “gems hidden waiting to be surfaced” in Positive Grid® Apps and Plugins !

Positive Grid® has been acclaimed not only for its great sounding apps & plugins but also for the amazing amount of amps available both in its apps and in ToneCloud®.

While working on Ampl4™ amp manager, I realized that some amps were showing in the Bias folders, but were not displayed in the Apps! Why? I have no idea ! I guessed that some amps were included in previous version of the apps and left there for compatibility, but not only: some are recent (1.2+ versions) but still “unlisted”.

I'm personally digging vintage amps, so I was happy to discover a Gibson 1959 GA-18, a Gretsch6156 "Playboy" or a Marshall 255X Silver Jubilee! But you'll find modern amps too, like a Bogner Ecstasy or a DR.Z Route 66 from 2007...

When you gather all amps from the different Apps & Plugins, even after deleting the obviously “bad” and duplicates (using Ampl4 amp signature feature), you end with about 100+ amps to play with! Of course there are still duplicates: different apps might use same amps with different ids (and different signatures?), but also some amps might be modeled on different channels without the name reflecting it.

As always, the amp name were loosely “cryptic”, the following list is the result of my first investigations and deductions.

Like for the default amps, real names & brands of these amps are made available to you through the Ampl4™ "autolookup" feature! A little help to get you started on building your own AmpCyclopedia™

The amp identification and descriptions in the db is still a work in process but for 150+ amps that should save you quite few hours of web research.

I hope you’ll enjoy it…
